Vertia just celebrated its 10th anniversary in May. Time has flown by, even though so much has happened along the way. In this blog post, I wanted to share a little about what’s been going on at Vertia over the past year: what we’re doing to promote construction quality and serve our customers, as well as the great achievements we’ve accomplished together.

At Vertia, we are committed to improving the quality of construction. We have developed our service portfolio around this mission. Over the past year, we have launched new services such as sewer inspections (Uusimaa and Southwest Finland) and construction site dust monitoring, which is an extension of our environmental monitoring service. We have developed a new application for moisture measurements, which will be rolled out across all our construction sites this fall. This will allow us to collect more accurate data in the future, for example, on the drying times of structures. I hope this information will increase understanding of structural drying and thus help avoid delays in the drying process. We will continue to develop both new and existing services, so if you have any needs or ideas, I would love to hear them. You can learn more about our strategy and goals here.

Our ambitious goal is to provide our customers with the best service in the industry. However, when the pandemic began, we were hesitant to hire new staff, which is why we’ve been so busy over the past year. Nevertheless, we have done everything in our power to ensure that every one of our contract clients’ construction sites, in particular, is completed on time. Unfortunately, we have had to turn down many new clients outright. Having learned from this rush, we have accelerated our recruitment pace. There are now 25 of us at our Helsinki office, and we have aimed to hire one new person each month, so going forward, an even larger team will serve our clients, and we will be able to serve all of our clients more quickly. In this regard, we have also made significant strides in our onboarding process to effectively transfer our expertise to new surveyors. I dare say that we certainly have one of the most comprehensive, if not the most comprehensive, onboarding programs in the entire construction industry.

We want to ensure high-quality construction throughout Finland. That’s why we opened a second office in Turku this fall, where we serve our customers with a team of three surveyors. With the help of our close-knit network of partners, we continue to serve customers throughout Finland.

Our self-directed operating model, which functions without supervisors, has sparked both curiosity and interest both within and outside the industry. We participated in A study by the University of Tampere, according to which workplace well-being and employee engagement, among other things, are at exceptionally high levels at Vertia. This was reported by, among others,. Yle. In fact, our customers have generally praised our service (average customer rating: 4.72/5), and our dedicated, happy staff is undoubtedly the most significant factor in this. At the end of our 10th anniversary year, my fellow entrepreneur Heikki Jussila and I Helsinki's Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. What’s particularly gratifying about this is that the jury cited the sustainability of our operations as a key reason for the award. In my view, this is at the very heart of Vertia, but I don’t think we’ve ever specifically highlighted it, so it’s great that it was noticed. Vertia was also listed According to the Financial Times Among the 1,000 fastest-growing companies in Europe.
