Antti has been working at Vertia for just over three months. His career so far has included training and orientation for the role of moisture meter technician, and Antti was recently assigned his first job site.
Vertia’s job posting was the first one the soon-to-be-30-year-old house builder came across in his job search, and he didn’t need to look any further—he submitted his application and got a call right away. Soon, Antti received an invitation to a phone interview, which led to an in-person interview at the construction site and then a group interview. On his way home from the group interview, the phone rang. He made a U-turn to sign the employment contract, and a new adventure had begun.
“What drew me to the job posting was its uniqueness. The posting was looking for the right kind of person—someone with the right personality, not necessarily a seasoned veteran. The ad also talked a lot about a self-directed, freer but responsible work style, which sounded good to me, as a counterbalance to the usual ‘just do what you’re told’ model,” says Antti Vertia about the job ad.
The training and orientation period is a process where you gradually take on more responsibilities and learn the job by doing it. Despite starting on his own construction site, Antti has never felt at any point that he was alone with his tasks or challenges—he can always call someone and get help, tips, and support.
“It’s been nice to see that the company cares about its employees’ well-being. People have even asked me how I’m doing and if everything’s okay. That also boosts my motivation to work for a company like this. Another thing I’ve noticed about this job compared to my other jobs is that I find myself going to bed earlier on purpose if I have work in the morning. I don’t feel the need to stretch the day out late into the evening, and I want to be sharp at work.”
Antti’s goal is to gain as broad an experience as possible in all aspects of Vertia’s work and to train in various areas of the field. As Antti puts it, “The more you learn, the more you want to learn”—once you learn something, you immediately want to learn more.
