Responsibility is Vertia's strength

Responsibility is Vertia's strength

January 8, 2020 We filmed a video for you about Vertia’s culture. Of course, Vertia’s culture could easily fill a whole movie, but we condensed it into just over a minute and added some text so that even those interested in Vertia who are short on time would have a chance to watch it. Here you go, in a nutshell:;

Vertia’s mission is to improve the quality of construction. Working at Vertia differs from many other companies in the construction industry in that the work is highly self-directed. There are no traditional supervisors; instead, matters are always discussed and decided upon collectively.

Vertia performs quality assurance inspections, airtightness tests, moisture measurements, thermal imaging, tracer gas tests, and moisture surveys. The goal of our work is to ensure that everyone in Finland can live in a healthy home.

– In my line of work, I often find myself thinking: if this were my own home, or if I were building a house for myself, how would I want things to be inspected? I strive to do my job in such a way that I can honestly say, “I measured this, and it’s good to go,” says the moisture and airtightness inspector Sami Elasmaa.

Decisions are made together

The core values that guide Vertia’s operations include self-direction, reliability, honesty, and teamwork. Vertia’s organizational structure differs from that of many companies in the construction industry in that it has no separate supervisors at all.

– For example, we decide on our salaries together. We have a pay scale and a salary committee. The salary committee makes a proposal, and we all decide together whether their proposal is a good one, says [name], who, in addition to conducting moisture and airtightness tests, also does sales work Yrjö Ahonen.

– Since we don’t have supervisors, everyone is accountable to everyone else. For example, if you notice a colleague has made a mistake, you have to point it out. Everyone makes mistakes, and here, it’s okay to make them. You just have to notice them and correct them, says the person working in recruitment, organization, sales, and marketing Miija Nurmela.

“Since everyone has a different personality, different ways of doing things can easily arise. These can lead to conflicts. Normally, a supervisor would be responsible for resolving conflicts, but we do it ourselves by discussing things together,” Nurmela continues.

The customer is never left on their own

In everything they do, Vertia’s experts strive to ensure that clients feel truly cared for. The client is not left alone; instead, the experts work with them and for them. At Vertia, employees are also constantly encouraged to pursue further training in areas that interest them personally.

– Our strength is that all our inspectors are experts. They know what they’re doing and they have time for the customer. We usually start with moisture and airtightness tests. Then we can take thermal images, perform tracer tests, conduct surveys—whatever the client feels is necessary. We also handle various office tasks that can be started right away, Miija says.

“Responsibility is also a must here. That’s our strength,” Sami sums up.
